Linguistic Mode
Tools capable of visually representing alphabetic text, like:
-Typewriters
-Stamps
-Paint, pencil, pen, chalk
-Fogged mirrors
-Stickers (here's how to make one at the FabLab!)
Tools capable of capturing spoken word:
-Voice recorders
-Voice to text software
-Voice/sound in video + video captioning
Twine text-based interactive stories

Gestural Mode
Bodies!
-Communicating with ASL
-Dancing/moving
-Gestures & facial expressions
Tools for representing or altering facial expressions like photography, drawing, Snapchat filters
Technologies operated through movement (like the Mio Armband at the Fab Lab or music/phone control apps) or touch or that give haptic feedback

Anything that enables you to organize objects or people in space...

Visual Mode
Tools that help you create things that others can see, where you can play with layout, style, size, perspective, framing, color etc. Many of the tools listed under other modes would fit that bill, especially those under spatial and gestural. Get creative.
